Newly-released bodycam footage revealed an Iowa police officer fatally shot a family dog within seconds of the pet approaching him on a front yard.

The under-fire Davenport Police Department released bodycam video from officer Ethan Bock following an August 21 shooting where he killed the dog, named Myst, in front of two young children.

In the footage, the black retriever-mix was seen barking at Bock and sprinting towards him with bared fangs as soon as the cop arrived, as the officer said 'hey, hey, hey' to calm the dog down.

Within four seconds, Bock pulled out his gun and shot the pet several times, leading to chaotic scenes as the family's two young children screamed in terror.

As the children's mother Brandy Hesseltine raced outside and began wailing, Bock is heard in the bodycam admitting on his police radio: 'Shots fired... yeah, I just shot a dog.'

The fatal dog shooting captured headlines earlier this week after surveillance footage from the family's home showed the moment the beloved bet was gunned down.

The video sparked outrage online, with viewers pointing out how quickly Bock fired his weapon with children in the immediate vicinity.

It was also revealed that a few weeks before, the same officer struck and killed another man's unleashed dog with his police cruiser. In body-worn camera footage after the smash, Bock told the owner: 'That's why you gotta have your dog on a leash bro.'

Following an internal review of the August 21 shooting, Davenport police said that Bock's actions were lawful, explaining that Bock was responding to reports of a pack of dogs attempting to jump a homeowner's fence.

The force said Bock told the children to leash their dog due to the reports, and they were leading the pet back inside when he left his vehicle - at which point Myst ran back at the officer.

In the press release justifying the shooting, the force included Bock's statement of how the incident unfolded from his perspective.

'The dog charged me at full speed, barking aggressively at me. I overheard the adult woman say, “oh no”', he wrote.

'I began to back up, holding my left hand out in hopes the dog would catch my scent and back away from me. The pitch of the dog’s bark changed to a threatening bark.

'The dog continued barking at me, baring its teeth at me. I observed the dog to be salivating from the mouth. The dog lunged at me multiple times, snapping its teeth at me in an attempt to bite me.

'I dodged the dog multiple times as it lunged at me while snapping his teeth. This put me in fear of being seriously injured. I drew my service handgun and continued to back up.

'The dog lunged at me as I was backing up, trying to bite me. I discharged my firearm twice, striking the dog.'

Don Hesseltine, the father of seven-year-old Maverick who witnessed his pet being shot, told TMZ that his son has been left traumatized as he called for Bock to face criminal charges.,

He said Maverick has been left bereaved and often calls out for his dead dog in their home, and said his son is having trouble sleeping as he recounts the shooting.

'I needed that dog,' the dog's owner Lacindra Spears said, revealing the police department offered $1,700 as compensation for the killing on July 30

Adding fuel to the furor is another incident involving Bock that occurred the night of July 13, where Lacindra Spears' dog Muneca was struck and killed by the officer's squad car in the alleyway behind her home.

'I needed that dog,' Spears told Our Quad Cities News, revealing the police department offered $1,700 as compensation for the killing on July 30.

The offer came shortly after she first spoke to the paper that same day, after a week of the department allegedly giving her and her family differing stories about what happened.

Spears was supposedly told her witnesses were 'not credible.' as her brother, C'edward Spears, was taking out the trash at about 10 p.m. to the alleyway behind buildings when he encountered Bock.

At the same time, another brother was taking Muneca out to do her business, creating a perfect storm that culminated with Muneca's death.

'He comes speeding down, so I stepped in front of the police car, I say, 'stop' so the dog can come out so he stops,' C'edward Spears told the local paper.

'The dog goes out into the field and a few seconds go by, and another police car, he comes up speeding as well, and by this time the dog has used the bathroom already and is on the way back.

'I step out again. I'm like, 'stop — the dog.' So he stops. He acknowledges me. Then he speeds up and he goes.'

In Bock's bodycam from the scene, he told the owner: 'That's why you gotta have your dog on a leash bro.'

Took Maverick and Ezra to see Myst yesterday. We put up a cross and planted flowers. I told Maverick Myst would always be by his side. He said, 'I know, Dad. I can still feel him.'

He added in a separate post to social media, in which he tagged the Davenport Police Department: 'Thanks to the coward murderer cop who shot and killed the family dog in front of the kids.

'I hope the memory that my child will forever have of this moment haunts your punk a**. RIP Myst - you were our best friend dude.'
