Bone-chilling home surveillance footage of prowler in elderly woman's house that would terrify anyone

This is the terrifying moment a deranged man broke into an old woman's home, stripped naked, and set a fire before he was gunned down by police.

The heart-stopping footage shows the dramatic course of events that unfolded before Lavell Adams was shot dead by Los Angeles Police Department deputies at a house on Halm Avenue and Beverlywood Street on July 29. 

At around 3.30am, officials responded to emergency calls made by an old woman in fear of her life after Adams lit a fire in her house and barricaded himself. 

As officers arrived at the scene, they saw smoke rising from the property and asked for additional help from firefighters.

Footage shows responding firefighters standing outside the house and informing deputies that there was a man with a knife locked inside a room. 

Officers could be seen attempting to convince Adams to come out of the room but to no avail. 

After they received no response, one of the deputies went outside and tried to convince the man to come outside through a window. 

During this, Adams could be heard mumbling and yelling inside the room. 

After a few minutes, officials managed to enter the locked room and began to ask the man to stand up while holding his hands in the air.

But instead a now-naked Adams jumps out of a blanket with a knife in his hand and attempts to stab an officer.

In response, one of the cops fires beanbag rounds at him - causing him to lose grip of the weapon and fall to the ground. 

He attempts to take a stab at one of the officers again after a few minutes but to no avail. 

The footage then shows deputies surrounding the house at around 7am and demanding that Adams come out of the house without the knife.

But the knife-wielder leaves the property with a blanket over his head, throws the cloth away and begins to run towards the cops - forcing them to open fire. 

The volley of bullets caused him to fall on the front yard and die at the scene.  

At the time of the incident, a man who lives next to the home revealed that Adams had initially tried to enter his home through a window but failed to get through. 

It remains unclear why Adams had barricaded himself inside the house.
