Murder in million dollar mansion as cops find woman and her lover shot dead

A man has been arrested accused of fatally shooting his ex-wife and her new partner in their million-dollar Long Island mansion.

Daniel Coppola, 50, allegedly shot dead Kelly Coppola, also 50, and Kenneth Pohlman, 53, while they were sleeping in their St. James home shortly before midnight on Wednesday night.

Detective Lt. Kevin Breyer said the couple's teenage daughter was inside the home prior to the incident, but was given a warning by her father.

'The daughter was in the house and he reached out to her and told her to get out of the house,' he said.

'He picked the girl up, put her in his car, committed the murders, drove her from there to Harbor Road. As he's driving her, she's communicating with friends via text saying, 'I don't know what my father did. I don't know how my mother is.'

'They try to reach out to the mother, can't get in touch with the mother, they call 911,' he said. 

Coppola was arrested and is being held under mental evaluation after making suicidal remarks, according to the NY Post.

It is understood the alleged offender and his ex-wife had recently gone through a bitter divorce.

The victims shared a six-bed, four-bath home worth $1.1million in the affluent Suffolk County in Long Island, New York.

Breyer described it a 'tragic incident.'

'Kenny was a dear friend of my ex husband and he was one of the nicest people you could ever meet,' one friend said following the announcement. 

It is understood Pohlman has three children of his own who are now orphaned after their mother died from cancer.
