George Clooney and Brad Pitt proved they were every inch the comedy act on Sunday night as they took on the job of being waiters after hiring out a restaurant.

The Hollywood hearthrobs paid a visit to Ristorante Da Ivo in Venice with Amal, 46, and Brad's girlfriend Ines de Ramon, 34, on Saturday, a day before the red carpet premiere of their Apple TV+ film Wolfs.

George, 63, took his hosting duties seriously as he took orders from Apple TV executives who had also headed for a bite to eat there.

'George took over the running of the restaurant for about half an hour. He went around to all our tables pretending to take the orders,' an Apple TV party member told People

'The menu that had been established had a whole complicated and long explanation on it for each dish … but George just made his interpretation of it and it was absolutely hilarious. He had us all in tears laughing,

'Oh, and by the way, his sidekick was Brad Pitt... Who is ever going to believe us?'

The restaurant is a regular spot for George when he visits Venice and previously paid a visit with Amal in August last year.

George and Brad, 60, even posed for a photo with staff at the restaurant after enjoying a three course meal.

The group had fiori di zucca in pastella (zucchini flowers in batter stuffed with mozzarella), porcini mushrooms and truffle risotto, tagliata di manzo (sliced beef) and paccheri pasta as well as red and white wine.

What the Hollywood stars ate

  • Porcini mushrooms and truffle risotto
  • Tagliata di manzo (sliced beef)
  • Desert
  • Tiramisù (George and Brad)
  • Wild strawberry sorbet (Amal and Ines)

George and Brad opted for tiramisù for desert while Amal and Ines enjoyed a wild strawberry sorbet.

The A-list double act held the Venice Film Festival in the palm of their hand on Sunday as they premiered their new caper film, Wolfs.

In the film they play criminal 'clean up' specialists who are unexpectedly hired for the same job – disposing of a body in a hotel room.

George teasingly said of Brad, who is three years his junior: 'He's 74 years old so he's very lucky at this age to be working.'

And he joked of their reunion: 'The restraining order ran out. No, it was just cash, money will do it.'

The duo were reportedly paid $35 million each to act in the caper film, and had insisted on a release in cinemas.

But makers Apple had a change of heart and the film, which insiders say cost up to $200 million all in, is now only being released in cinemas in the US for one week.

In all other territories it will go straight to streaming, making it easily the most expensive TV film ever made.

Apple's change of heart follows a run of expensive films made by the streamer - including Napoleon, Killers of the Flower Moon and Argylle - all flopping at the cinema.

George denied that their fees were as high as $35 million, saying the true figure was 'many many millions below' that amount.

But he added it was a 'bummer' the way it had worked out.

He said: 'We would have liked that, we wanted that, and Brad and I gave some of our salary back to do that. We have had some bumps along the way, and that happens.

'It's a bummer, of course it's a bummer, but a lot of people are going to see the film and we are getting a release in a few hundred theatres. It would have been nice to get a wider release.'

He said that the economics of streaming are still being 'figured out' but added: 'We are figuring it out. We need Apple and Amazon and they need Sony or Warners who have been doing it for 100 years.'
