Former MLB pitcher Mark Mulder has labelled San Francisco an 'absolute hell hole' after NFL rookie Ricky Pearsall was shot in a failed robbery attempt in the city.
Pearsall, who was selected by the 49ers in the first round of this year's NFL Draft, took a bullet to the chest on Saturday night after being targeted for his Rolex watch in downtown San Francisco.
The 23-year-old was listed as being in a 'serious but stable condition' before eventually being released from hospital on Sunday.
In light of the shooting, two-time MLB All-Star Mulder has taken a huge swipe at San Francisco - which was recently voted America's worst-run city - while claiming 'mentally ill' liberals continue to defend it.

The ex-Oakland Athletics star quoted a video of Pearsall being taken into an ambulance on X and wrote: 'What an absolute hell hole of a city! The mentally ill Libs will still tell you how beautiful it is all while they get mugged and step in s***.'
KGO-TV's Dion Lim reported that Pearsall was signing autographs at Cow Palace before going downtown to Union Square for some shopping. Lim's sources say he was at a high-end designer store moments before being shot.
In a video shared by KTVU's Zak Sos, the wounded wide receiver was led by emergency responders to a waiting ambulance, where he was placed on a stretcher.
Pearsall was moving slowly during the footage, which was captured from the opposite side of the street. He did not appear to be overly distressed but was covering his chest area.
NBA icon LeBron James was one of many athletes to rally around Pearsall after news of the terrifying ordeal broke.
