A young mother who sparked fury with her post about taking a Disney World vacation without her children is speaking out and addressing her critics.
Madalyn Jade Monaghan, 30, known as Maddie's Mickey Magic on Instagram, shared a video of herself crying while hugging her son with the caption: 'When the Mom guilt hits because you're going to Disney without the kids.'
The video then cuts to a clip of Monaghan dancing and sipping on a cocktail while wearing Minnie Mouse ears, accompanied by the caption: 'But then you remember why you booked a trip without the kids.'
The post received mixed reactions online, with some critics questioning Monaghan's decision to ditch her kids.
Now the young mother told DailyMail.com she intended for the video to be lighthearted and doubled down that Disney can be a place for adults to vacation alone.

Her controversial post starts with the mom crying while hugging her son as she heads off for her solo Disney trip
'I never thought this video, which was partly made as a satire mixed with true feelings, would get such a response as it did,' Monaghan said.
'Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I was absolutely blown away by the volume of straight evilness, hatred and nastiness from the negative commenters.'
Monaghan - who is a content creator and self-described Disney and Universal travel specialist - justified her solo trip by saying her kids have been to Disney hundreds of times and her vacation was a work trip.
'I originally booked this trip so that I could go cover opening night of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, which my children have also already attended in years passed,' she said.
'When it was time for me to leave on this trip, I felt a lot of guilt and sadness about leaving them. But while on my trip, I had an amazing time and was able to lay aside the guilt and enjoy my quiet time away, which I think is so important for moms, dads or any caretaker.'

She said she rode rollercoasters her children are too small to ride and drank more alcohol than she would have if her kids were with her.
'My happy place is Disney and I'm blessed that I have gotten to experience it both ways, with and without kids. With kids, it is a blast but so it is without. Disney World was of course made with children in mind but it was meant to be shared and enjoyed by everyone despite whether you have children or not,' the mom said.
'While bringing kids is great, there’s also a lot of stresses that can come with the territory so I’d like to encourage adults to try it at least one time without their kids.
'My message to parents, was to not feel guilty and to make sure you are also taking time to treat yourself, whatever or wherever that may be. I believe it will benefit not only you but the children as well.'

Monaghan said she and her family are annual pass holders to Disney World and she intents to continue to use her page to help people plan their vacations
Some commenters defended Monaghan's choice, saying she is welcome to take a trip however she pleases. Others slammed her for going to a family destination without her children.
'I received a lot of positive and negative reactions from posting this video. The positive commenters, totally get it and know what I meant,' Monaghan said.
'It was truly disturbing how hateful and gross people can be and that’s what bothered me most of all.
'After reading the nasty comments, I decided I’m going to dedicate myself even more to being a positive influencer on the internet. My goal is to make people happy and help make their vacations magical.'
