Donald Trump is safe after a suspected second assassination attempt in less than two months.

A gunman opened fire with an AK-47 while the former president was playing at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach on Sunday just after 1pm.

The Republican nominee was rushed to safety as Secret Service agents opened fire on the suspect who had a GoPro camera and backpack, along with his rife.

The would-be assassin has been named has Ryan Wesley Routh, and is now in custody.

FBI says it's probing 'attempted assassination' on Trump

The FBI is investigating a second assassination attempt against Donald Trump in just two months.

The former president was rushed to safety on Sunday after multiple shots were fired in his vicinity while he was playing golf at his club in West Palm Beach.

A suspected gunman is in custody after the terrifying incident at Trump International Club almost exactly two months after a gunman tried to take out Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Multiple reports name the suspect as Ryan Wesley Routh, a registered Democrat.

Trump confirmed in a statement about an hour after the incident that he is 'safe and well' and didn't want rumors to 'start spiraling out of control.'

MSNBC analyst says Trump should give up golf for a while after second assassination attempt

News analyst Frank Figliuzzi spoke on MSNBC Sunday evening, urging former President Donald Trump to give up golf until a perimeter can be better secured.

Trump surrogate Rep. Mike Waltz suggests Biden didn't follow through on security promise

Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., said on Fox News hours after the second attempt on former President Donald Trump's life:

I'm a member of the [Trump] assassination task force. We were just briefed by acting Director Rowe as it pertains to the July 13th assassination attempt that President Biden ordered that former President Trump and Kamala Harris have the same level of protection that a current President Biden has.
But I'm hearing from agents already that have that if that was true, if that was being implemented, you would have had a much larger presence from the Secret Service around that golf course.

Donald Trump has issued a defiant statement after shots were fired at his golf course near West Palm Beach while he was present - promising to never surrender.

'There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I am safe and well,' he wrote in an alert sent out by his team Sunday.

'Nothing will slow me down. I will never surrender,' the candidate continued, months after surviving a separate attempt on his life that saw him shot in the ear.

Trump assassination task force is monitoring latest threat

In the midst of an apparent second attempt on Donald Trump's life, the task force investigation the assassination bid is monitoring developments.

The Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump released a statement on Sunday after a suspect was arreste for aiming a gun at the former president.

Republican Chairman Mike Kelly and Democratic Ranking Member Jason Crow wrote:

The Task Force is monitoring this attempted assassination of former President Trump in West Palm Beach this afternoon. We have requested a briefing with the U.S. Secret Service about what happened and how security responded.
We are thankful that the former President was not harmed, but remain deeply concerned about political violence and condemn it in all of its forms. The Task Force will share updates as we learn more.

New images reveal the backpack, GoPro camera and AK-47 style rifle that a gunman left behind when fleeing the scene where he was targeting Donald Trump.

Law enforcement held a press conference in West Palm Beach on Sunday after the FBI announced it is investigating a second assassination attempt against Donald Trump in just two months.

The former president was rushed to safety on Sunday after multiple shots were fired in his vicinity while he was playing golf at his club in West Palm Beach.

Officials said U.S. Secret Service agents spotted a rifle barrel sticking out of the bushes two holes ahead of where Trump was golfing on Sunday, prompting the agents to fire at the suspect.
