It's nearly impossible to do something special at this club with all the trophies that have been won over here. But I think it says a lot about where we started out and how much the players have bought in and how much effort they've put in.
It's unreal to be fair, the loudest Villa Park I've heard. It was hurting my ears at some point. I love playing here, I love the fans, this is a good one for them. With Harry Kane you know he's always going to get it on target.
We know Neuer plays high, an hour and a half video with the manager the morning, he had it in his mind. It's a statement, still a lot to play. It's a night we will remember for a long time.
We have seen this move before from Mo Salah. Pick the ball up on the right, drive inside laterally on to left foot and then aim for the far corner.
The first time he tried it here, in the 63rd minute, he missed by a foot. The second time, just a minute or so ago, the ball fizzed on a perfect arc into the top corner. Beautiful, just beautiful.
There is enough in this game to worry Liverpool fans now. Two more good chances for Bologna in this half so far.
First one cake from a simple whipped free kick that wasn’t dealt with at the far post by Alexander-Arnold. Alisson saved low from Riccardo Orsolini. Then, a minute later, Urbanski was left in space to fire over from 18 yards.
Bologna – we should remind ourselves – are 13th in Serie A and have won once in six games.
Liverpool – out of nowhere – have just had a terrible ten minutes during which Bologna could have scored four times. The Italians have hit the post and the bar while Alisson Becker has plunged to his left to deny Kacper Ubanski.
Bologna have started pressing Liverpool a little more in the home team’s half and it’s paid off as Slot’s team keep coughing up the ball. Interesting…
Liverpool are being given far too much time on the ball in the attacking third and are making the most of it.
The goal came off the back of a five pass move and none of the Liverpool players had any pressure on them before Mo Salah found Alexis MacAllister three yards from goal.
I have a feeling the cross was aimed for Nunez but he fell under pressure, allowing MacAllister to steal in and score.
A big night for Darwin Nunez who remains rather on the fringes at Anfield. Didn’t make the strides I expected last season but has been receiving some one-on-one attention for his new manager Arne Slot.
This game feels made for him really. Liverpool should be possession heavy…
[Slot's] start has been very good, impressive. You would exect him to have those point judging on the type of team they had last year and the fixtures they've jad this year.
So I'm not surprised that they've got so many points. There are going to be harder fixtures after the international break. So we'll really judge him then.
Bologna are a perfect example of the price of success in football. After achieving their highest league finish since 1967 and qualifying for the Champions League for the first time, their squad has been obliterated.
Forward-thinking manager Thiago Motta jumped ship to Juventus while eight players departed, including Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal, Joshua Zirkzee to Manchester United and Marko Arnautovic – remember him, Stoke fans? – to Serie A champions Inter Milan.
But despite being 13th under fantastically-named new boss Vincenzo Italiano, those fans from the home of bolognese sauce – serving it with spaghetti is a big no over there – are enjoying every minute of their European tour this year and are in good voice before the match here.
Liverpool have made just one change from the team that beat Wolves on Saturday, with Darwin Nunez coming in for Diogo Jota, who took a knock at Molineux.
Federico Chiesa misses out on the squad with a minor injury and it is uncertain whether he will be fit for the weekend’s trip to Crystal Palace. That’s a strong team named by Arne Slot which should have more than enough to get past Bologna, who are 13th in Serie A.
Everyone is fighting for a position on the pitch so I want to be the man to play but day in day out. Harry and I have a good relationship. When I'm in the camp I speak to him so there's no animosity.
I'm doing all I can to be on the pitch and so is he. He's got the records and scored the number of goals he has for a reason. He's put in a lot of hard work over the years to get there.
We are motivated and so excited to play with our supporters in Villa Park. It is a special, special match for everyone. We are very motivated coming back to Europe last year, with Aston Villa not playing Bayern Munich since 42 years ago.
We didn’t concede anything in the last 15 minutes – I think they only had two shots in the second half – but in promising situations we lost the ball before it led to a chance, and we lost the ball a few times really easy before it even got to a promising situation. We as a team, if you have so much quality, cannot accept mediocrity.
