Wolves have been absolutely wretched here and the visiting fans are not holding back. They have just started chanting: “You don’t know what you’re doing” to Gary O’Neil and followed up with:
“You’re getting sacked in the morning” – it’s always significant when the away fans speak out.
That was an outstanding half from Newcastle. "Get into them" was the message from Wor Flags before the game – and that is what they've done. It was a stunning goal by Isak & it could have been more.
From no shots vs Palace to seven inside 45 minutes versus the PL leaders. Liverpool can't handle Isak. And this is before Newcastle kick downhill...
Don't ever tell this reporter that VAR has improved the quality of the sport we watch. James Tarkowski has just had a ‘goal’ disallowed that nobody could see anything wrong with in normal speed.
Darren England in Stockley Park sent the decision back Michael Salisbury to watch on the screen at the side of the pitch and he cancelled out what would have been a huge advantage for Everton. A bearpit has now been created.
This could be 3-2 already, real end to end game. Gvardiol missed two huge chances – bordering sitters – while Forest have created two presentable opportunities when City were a little lax at the back.
Guardiola has found a way of opening up the runners from midfield by dropping Grealish a little deeper and allowing Gvardiol to roam in the half space between Doku and Haaland.
Honestly, I'm not sure how Chelsea are winning here, but they are. That second goal was down to Southampton stupidly trying to pass from the back when the visitors' high press trap was primed, and lo and behold, Noni Madueke won possession before teeing up Christopher Nkunku.
Enzo Maresca was extremely animated as soon as Nkunku's goal went in. He called over Marc Cucurella, Enzo Fernandez, Joao Felix, Cole Palmer and Madueke to the touchline for a mini-meeting.
Such weak defending from Enzo Fernandez in the Southampton equaliser, as Kyle Walker-Peters did him inside of the box before cutting the ball back for Joe Aribo to make it 1-1.
It started so well for Chelsea but, given their widespread changes, the Saints may feel they can have a go here.
They have just shown highlights on the giant screen of Everton’s five greatest nights under the lights at Goodison Park. It’s lovely to see the nostalgia but it is also jarring as it reminds you how much things have fallen.
There is no atmosphere at the moment and that is symptomatic of the apathy that swirls around. Everton need a big win this evening to change the mood.
We only have five defenders left. It would not be smart in the long term to play Trent.
It is not only tactics, but making sure players are aware of what is necessary. Every time we have won we have always had to work hard for it and they know and feel that. One step down... we play in a league where you will be immediately punished.
We want that feeling here that we are a tough team to play against. Even in the two games we've lost, the results could have been really different. It is not something we have had a lot here, but we need to try and get back to that.
I don't think sitting back suits up. We have played a certian way for a long time. We will be ourselves with and without the ball.
So, six games after Eddie Howe ripped up his midfield three of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali, the manager has named them together again.
Newcastle’s record with a different midfield was played five, won three, drawn one and lost one. The criticism of this trio was that there wasn’t enough running power and the opposition played through and around them too easily. Liverpool, then, is quite the test…
I was sat in the press room earlier deep inside the Etihad Stadium and one of the City staff members simply said: 'My son's never seen anything like this.'
That's the sort of feeling around this place at the moment. Fail to win tonight and it will be the first time they've gone winless in eight games since 2003-04.
Arne Slot has refreshed his team with Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones returning to the XI but the biggest change comes in defence, with Jarell Quansah making his first league start since the season opener at Ipswich.
The young Englishman came off the bench to play right back on Sunday - and it looks like he is set to play again here. It was at St James' Park last season that he made his Liverpool debut off the bench when Virgil van Dijk was sent off.
Well the big news at the Etihad is that Kevin De Bruyne is back starting a game for the first time since September. It’ll be interesting to hear whether Guardiola thinks that’s come too early for the Belgian but with Phil Foden out, there were a lack of other options for Manchester City.
Must win game for them tonight and Nottingham Forest – who’ve only lost once away from home all season – will fancy this.
Enzo Maresca was very complimentary of Southampton at his pre-match press conference yesterday, claiming this would be Chelsea’s toughest test of the season thus far. But then he was equally as courteous before beating League Two Barrow 5-0 in the Carabao Cup, and Armenian side Noah 8-0 in the Conference League.
Over to Russell Martin and his players to prove Maresca was not blowing hot air all over again, I suppose. I’m currently waiting for the team buses to see who is and isn’t here.
