21:20, 90'

Newcastle 3-3 Liverpool (Schar 90')

Callum Wilson is on for Newcastle with a final throw of the dice for Eddie Howe. Liverpool - it looks like - continue to win games in all sorts of ways.

NO THEY DO NOT! NEWCASTLE SCORE!

WHAT A GAME! The away end is silenced. Fabian Schar nets from a great free kick.

No idea what Kelleher is doing there. He leaves the free kick, it's over his head and in!

21:18, 87'

Goal:Southampton 1-5 Chelsea (Sancho 87')

In case anyone needed anymore goal tonight, Chelsea have added a fifth.

Cole Palmer no longer on the pitch but Jadon Sancho is and he's found the back of the net.

Enzo Maresca's name being sung around St Mary's. He's doing a good job.

21:15

'Give him the player of the season award now'

We are running out of things to say about Mo Salah. Just give him the player of the season award now.
One assist and two goals have completely turned the game on its head here - how often do we say that?
21:15, 83'

Goal:Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool (Salah 83')

HE'S DONE IT! OF COURSE HE HAS!

Salah wants a penalty but it's not going. He carries on, and Trent feeds him the ball in the box. He controls, turns, and fires into thee back of the net.

Liverpool lead. Salah leads.

21:13, 83'

OFF THE BAR: Newcastle 2-2 Liverpool

OFF THE BAR!

It's Salah again and it's so close!

He works the space, if you can call it that, all himself. No real angel or anything, but he pokes off the bar out of nowhere.

Liverpool getting closer...

21:10

VAR: Newcastle 2-2 Liverpool

Hearts in mouths in Newcastle as Isak goes down under challenge from Quansah.

A lengthy VAR check but the on-field decision stands. I must admit, I'm not sure on that one...

At the other end, Nunez swipes at one and drags it wide.

21:09, 72'

Goal:Everton 4-0 Wolves (Dawson OG 72')

Another Craig Dawson own goal.

Give the man a break.

21:08, 76'

Goal:Southampton 1-4 Chelsea (Palmer 78')

Cole Palmer was never going to miss out.

I'm surprised he's still on the pitch but he is and he gets his goal to make it 4-1 to Chelsea. This one is long done.

Closing the gap to Liverpool as it stands...

21:05

'He deserves a standing ovation'

Kevin De Bruyne comes off to applause from all four corners of the ground and a hug from Pep Guardiola. He deserves a standing ovation for this performance. De Bruyne is back and City, barring any late drama, are back to winning ways
21:02

'Sacked in the morning'

Wolves have been absolutely wretched here and the visiting fans are not holding back. They have just started chanting: “You don’t know what you’re doing” to Gary O’Neil and followed up with:
“You’re getting sacked in the morning” – it’s always significant when the away fans speak out.
20:59, 68'

Goal:Newcastle 2-2 Liverpool (Salah 68')

That didn't take long!

Murphy gives the ball away then Nunez, then Joelinton. Alexander-Arnold is involved right away and he cuts it into Salah, who scores again.

Similar to Jones' goal. We are level again.

20:57, 67'

BIG SAVE: Newcastle 2-1 Liverpool

Liverpool are pushiong now and there's a bit pinball in the box.

It ends up with Jones, who heads towards goal from close up, and Pope sticks out an arm.

Isak puts the ball in the back of the net but the flag is up. Good finish.

Here come the cavalry. Szoboszlai, Trent, Diaz on. Gomez, Gravenberch, Gakpo off.

20:54, 62'

Goal:Newcastle 2-1 Liverpool (Gordon 62')

LIVERPOOL TRAIL AGAIN!

A really poor clearance from Robertson allows Newcastle to build some momentum and the former Everton man, Anthony Gordon, has put Newcastle back ahead.

Isak feeds Isak and it's poor from Liverpool in all honesty. Gordon chops inside Gomez with ease and Kelleher should do better too.

This title race is so on.

20:51, 61'

Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool

It's absolutely leathering it down in Newcastle. Tonali goes into the book for Newcastle.

Gordon drives forward and his shot is blocked by Gomez's face. A good job, too - that was heading in.

Gomez now down to reset afetr taking the blow.

He's fine. Half-hour to go.

20:48, 57'

Goal:Man City 3-0 Nottingham Forest (Doku 57')

City are enjoying themselves too!

Doku is on on the act, teed up by Haaland (up the FPL).

The title charge back on? Let's start off with a first win in eight.

20:45, 54'

CLOSE: Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool are ticking now. Hall let's the ball bounce and it's not a good call.

Salah keeps it in and crosses and Gakpo is at the back post. Pope is nowhere. Gakpo heads across goal and Nunez is inches away from putting the Reds ahead.

20:44, 49'

Goal:Everton 3-0 Wolves (Dawson OG 49')

Everton are in dreamland.

Three goals in one game is almost unheard of.

Clavert-Lewin claims it but it looks like a Craig Dawson own goal to me. Wolves a mess.

20:42

Goal:Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool (Jones 50')

That is the Liverpool we have become accustmed to!

Salah is involved again - shock. Mac Allister is behind Hall but the Englishman recovers. Still, Salah plays a beauty of a pass with the outside of his foot and Jones arrives late to fire high into the back of the net.

Just like that, we are all square.

20:39, 49'

Newcastle 0-1 Liverpool

Eddie Howe said before the game that it's not in his side's nature to sit back. I wonder if they will be forced to here.

They have managed the game well so far, mind.

A slower start here but Newcastle still happy, forcing an error or two from their visitors.

20:36

'Southampton have helped Chelsea'

St Mary's Stadium DJ is playing Naive by The Kooks at half-time, a handy nod to Southampton's performance here. They've helped Chelsea big time.
20:35, 46'

SECOND HALF: Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

Here we go then.

The whistles are just about sounding around the country.

20:34

Slot's test

The players are on their ways back out.

It doesn't look like there are any changes at the break. But I imagine Trent and Diaz won't be far away.

Potentially Slot's biggest test yet.

20:28

Isak on fire

They weren't sure if he'd make today. He has made it and some.

A great goal to open the scoring from Isak here. A sensational goal into the roof of the net.

As Craig says, it could - probably should - be more. Liverpool need to improve.

I would imagine it won't be long until we see Trent Alexander-Arnold at least.

20:25

'It could have been more'

That was an outstanding half from Newcastle. "Get into them" was the message from Wor Flags before the game – and that is what they've done. It was a stunning goal by Isak & it could have been more.
From no shots vs Palace to seven inside 45 minutes versus the PL leaders. Liverpool can't handle Isak. And this is before Newcastle kick downhill...
20:23

Half time around the grounds

Half time everywhere in the 7:30s now. I will now breathe for the first time in nearly an hour.

We've had it all. Nine goals, VAR checks, the leaders losing and a red card.

What will the second 45 bring? I don't know, but I am absolutely here for it.

20:19, 45'

HALF TIME: Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool

We're closing in on half time now and this has to have been one of the most chaotic first halves of the season.

Quansah and Gravenberch have been booked for Liverpool. They have been miles off it.

Newcastle come forward again towards the end of the half. But Isak fouls Nunez to ease the pressure.

And there's the half time whistle at St James'. Job well done from Newcastle.

20:13

'The strangest red card'

Strangest red card of the night award goes to Southampton captain Jack Stephens – dismissed via the pitch-side monitor for pulling on Marc Cucurella's hair.
20:11, 39'

RED CARD: Southampton 1-3 Chelsea (Stephens)

It really is all happening here. Jack Stephens, the Southampton captain, has just been sent off for pulling the hair of Marc Cucurella.

Quick VAR check and the call is made. It just got a whole lot harder for Southampton.

20:10, 33'

Everton 2-0 Wolves (Mangala 33')

Now it's two!

20:09, 39'

GREAT CHANCE: Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool

He's got to score!

Ball through and it's a foot race between Gomez and Gordon. The Liverpool man gets there first but his pass back is a mess - Gordon pounces and is one on one but he shoots straight at Kelleher.

20:07

'Wood will be kicking himself'

Just as I say that, Kevin De Bruyne plays a horror pass. Chris Wood misses a sitter and City go up the other end and De Bruyne scores. Wood must be kicking himself.
20:07, 35'

Goal:Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool (Isak 35')

He's here, oh boy he's here.

Ball into Isak from Guimaraes and there doesn't look like there's too much danger. But Isak twists and turns, Van Dijk can't cope and he absolutely fires one into the roof of the net from outside the box.

What a strike. The leaders trail.

20:05, 34'

Goal:Southampton 1-3 Chelsea

And Chelsea add a third!

More defensive issues for Southampton. Madueke is in on the party this time.

He cuts in from the right and slots home. Good goal.

20:04, 31'

Goal:Man City 2-0 Nottingham Forest (De Bruyne 31')

Two for City!

And it's that man again. No, not the big Norweigian - Kevin De Bruyne.

He set up the first and now he's scored the second.

Him being back fit will go a long way to City turning around their fortunes,

20:00

'A bearpit has been created'

Don't ever tell this reporter that VAR has improved the quality of the sport we watch. James Tarkowski has just had a ‘goal’ disallowed that nobody could see anything wrong with in normal speed.
Darren England in Stockley Park sent the decision back Michael Salisbury to watch on the screen at the side of the pitch and he cancelled out what would have been a huge advantage for Everton. A bearpit has now been created.
20:00

'City wasteful'

This has been the Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne show so far but City have been wasteful.
19:59, 29'

Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

Salah should do better! Haven't said that too often this season.

Quansah runs infield from right back and just keeps on going and going. He strolls into the box, it's a neat pass to Salah and he should shoot but the ball sort of bounces off him.

The best chance so far.

19:56, 26'

Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

Gakpo disposesses Livramento, and Newcastle fans want a foul. Nothing going there. Tonali then blocks the forward's shot.

The corner is good but no one from Liverpool is in the middle. A good chnace wasted.

19:55

'An end to end game'

This could be 3-2 already, real end to end game. Gvardiol missed two huge chances – bordering sitters – while Forest have created two presentable opportunities when City were a little lax at the back.
Guardiola has found a way of opening up the runners from midfield by dropping Grealish a little deeper and allowing Gvardiol to roam in the half space between Doku and Haaland.
19:55

'I'm not sure how Chelsea are winning'

Honestly, I'm not sure how Chelsea are winning here, but they are. That second goal was down to Southampton stupidly trying to pass from the back when the visitors' high press trap was primed, and lo and behold, Noni Madueke won possession before teeing up Christopher Nkunku.
Enzo Maresca was extremely animated as soon as Nkunku's goal went in. He called over Marc Cucurella, Enzo Fernandez, Joao Felix, Cole Palmer and Madueke to the touchline for a mini-meeting.
19:54, 24'

OFF THE POST: Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

This time it's Newcstle's turn. They come forward and Murhy has space on the right. He shoots, Kelleher is helpless, and it hits the inside of the far post and goes wide.

A shot from Guimaraes is then straight at the Irishman. Hosts on top.

19:53

VAR: NO GOAL - Everton 1-0 Wolves

Sorry, Everton fans...

Tarkowski's goal has been ruled out. After a lengthy check, Lemina is adjudged to have been blocked by someone in an offside position.

Still 1-0.

19:51, 21'

YELLOW CARD: Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

MAc Allister is booked for Liverpool. Quite the start for him.

He will now miss the derby this weekend.

Quite a good game so far. Even stuff.

19:50, 16'

Goal:Everton 2-0 Wolves (Tarkowski 16)

No time to breathe. Everton are two up! James Tarkowski doubles the hosts' lead.

Disaster for Wolves. Goodison is now rocking.

How things can change!

19:49, 17'

Goal:Southampton 1-2 Chelsea (Nkunku 17')

Suthampton all over. I cannot believe this.

Joe Lumley has basically just given the ball to Madueke, who feeds Felix and he slots in with absolute easy.

Same story. Every single game. Chelsea back ahead.

19:46, 16'

OFF THE POST: Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

Back at St James' and Nick Pope has had to deliver to tip Mac Allister's effort wide.

Oooh! From the corner, Mac Allister shoots again, it deflects off Joelinton and it's off the post!

Liverpool are settling.

19:45

'Such weak defending'

Such weak defending from Enzo Fernandez in the Southampton equaliser, as Kyle Walker-Peters did him inside of the box before cutting the ball back for Joe Aribo to make it 1-1.
It started so well for Chelsea but, given their widespread changes, the Saints may feel they can have a go here.
19:45, 10'

Goal:Everton 1-0 Wolves (Young 10')

And the opener has come at Goodison too! Ashley Young, the veteran, has put the Toffees ahead.

Maybe some pressure eased on Sean Dyche and the tension lowered inside the ground.

19:43, 11'

Goal:Southampton 1-1 Chelsea (Aribo 11')

They're coming thick and fast now.

Southampton wil be frustrated with the opener but now time to sulk and Joe Aribo has squared things up!

19:42

'Classic Man City'

That's a classic Man City goal. Great movement from Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva is in the right place at the right time to turn in Kevin de Bruyne's header.
De Bruyne has been at the heart of every thing City have done so far.
19:42, 8'

Goal:Man City 1-0 Nottingham Forest (Silva 8')

City are ahead. And it's the City we know and love.

Three words: Kevin De Bruyne. He is ticking and his header sets up Bernardo Silva nicely here to give the champions the lead.

19:39

'The start Eddie Howe wanted'

This has been the start Eddie Howe wanted and supporters had called for with a 'Get into them' banner. Newcastle have been electric inside the opening five minutes.
19:38, 7'

Goal:Southampton 0-1 Chelsea (Disasi 7')

Southampton will be so, so frustrated.

Of all the ways to concede, it's to a centre back from a corner. Fernandez in, Disadi heads, goal. And the Blues lead early.

19:36, 6'

Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

A brief pause before the corner is taken due to Guimaraes being down on the back of a tackle from Gravenberch.

When it does come in, it finds Hall at the back post and he slices over.

Newcastle have started well here. May be a matter of weathering the storm for the leaders here.

19:33

'Grealish is in midfield'

Jack Grealish is stationed in the middle of midfield with De Bruyne, a real rarity. Big chance for him tonight – something has got to happen for him soon.
19:33, 3'

SAVE! Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

It is indeed Quansah at right back for Liverpool and Gomez at centre back. Curtis Jones starting off in the 10.

A roar goes around the ground as the first whistle is blown. Andy Madley is the referee tonight.

The first effort of the game is Newcastle's. Gordon cuts inside Quansah and Kelleher needs to save from Tonali.

19:31, 1'

KICK OFF: Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

Rainbow armbands for Virgil van Dijk and Bruno Guimaraes. Curtis Jones gets us underway at St James' Park.

As do many other players around the country. If you weren't already strapped in, get that seatbelt fastened.

We await the events of the next two hours.

19:29

Here come the teams!

Here we go then. The teams are on their ways out at St James' Park.

Some atmosphere in the north East. And we are treated to Clive Tyldesley on the airwaves.

Cannot wait for this!

19:27

'There is no atmosphere'

They have just shown highlights on the giant screen of Everton’s five greatest nights under the lights at Goodison Park. It’s lovely to see the nostalgia but it is also jarring as it reminds you how much things have fallen.
There is no atmosphere at the moment and that is symptomatic of the apathy that swirls around. Everton need a big win this evening to change the mood.
19:23

Around the grounds

So minute by minute from Newcastle tonight, but updates from City vs Forest, Southampton vs Chelsea and Everton vs Wolves.

Some warm up pics for you from around the grounds below.

Predictions, everyone? Let me know in the comments! Kick off in our first four games is around sevenish minutes away.

STAT PACK

The final stat pack from Squawka ahead of tonight. Southampton vs Chelsea.

It's not been pretty for Southampton, who have been leaky. Chelsea score goals, too - which could lead to one outcome.

Nicolas Jackson is only on the bench tonight, but we will see if Christopher Nkunku can replicate his form.

19:14

'They know they have had to work hard'

Arne Slot, Liverpool manager, Amazon Prime Video:

We only have five defenders left. It would not be smart in the long term to play Trent.
It is not only tactics, but making sure players are aware of what is necessary. Every time we have won we have always had to work hard for it and they know and feel that. One step down... we play in a league where you will be immediately punished.

Warm-up snaps from St James' are in.

'We will be ourselves'

Eddie Howe, Newcastle manager, Amazon Prime Video:

We want that feeling here that we are a tough team to play against. Even in the two games we've lost, the results could have been really different. It is not something we have had a lot here, but we need to try and get back to that.
I don't think sitting back suits up. We have played a certian way for a long time. We will be ourselves with and without the ball.

STAT PACK

Back with Squawka and their stat pack for tonight's game at the Etihad highlighting how much City have struggled of late.

19 goals conceded to Forest's 13. This is the champions we are talking about.

Erling Haaland's performance against Liverpool is highlighted too. Thomas from Squawka clearly missed my message that I have him captained in fantasy...

18:59

'The midfield is back together'

So, six games after Eddie Howe ripped up his midfield three of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali, the manager has named them together again.
Newcastle’s record with a different midfield was played five, won three, drawn one and lost one. The criticism of this trio was that there wasn’t enough running power and the opposition played through and around them too easily. Liverpool, then, is quite the test…
18:56

'They've NEVER seen anything like this'

I was sat in the press room earlier deep inside the Etihad Stadium and one of the City staff members simply said: 'My son's never seen anything like this.'
That's the sort of feeling around this place at the moment. Fail to win tonight and it will be the first time they've gone winless in eight games since 2003-04.
18:54

Elsewhere tonight...

You thought this was it?

There may be four games taking place here, but there are two more kicking off at 8:15. Arsenal vs Man United and Aston Villa vs Brentford.

Harry is running that live blog here, so click below to check that out.

But you'd rather stay here with me, right? I'm kidding. No worries either way.

18:50

'For the first time since May 2023'

There are no Cobham graduates in Chelsea's XI. That's the first time in the Premier League since May 2023, in a 3-1 loss to Arsenal under Frank Lampard. Levi Colwill is the only academy representative on the bench.
18:46

Support for the LGBTQ+ community

I'm just having a quick look through the captains tonight and I don't foresee there being any issues with the rainbow armband being on show.

Religious beliefs have been cited but all of the captains who play tonight wore the armbands at the weekend.

I think it's just really sad. If you want to read a little more, I'll point you in the direction of this story we ran earlier today.

18:43

STAT PACK

Our friends at Squawka have very kindly once again provided plenty of data ahead of tonight's games. I'll drip feed them in before kick off.

Just look how devastating Liverpol have been this season. 26 goals to Newcastle's 14, and a very fine defensive record.

And Salah is the man to watch. We know how good he is and can be, and he absolutely loves playing Newcastle too. Lewis Hall will have his work cut out.

18:39

Relegation clash

There's a scrap at the bottom tonight. El Sackico? Maybe.

It feels only a matter of time until Sean Dyche's time is up. Fans have had enough and I feel as though the general feeling is that when the new owners come in, they will make a change almost instantly.

It's four games without a goal for the Toffees, who are 17th in the Premier League table and could fall into the bottom three tonight.

Goodison is a tough place to go when it's going well, but that means it can be the complete opposite when things aren't. And after this it's the derby and an awful run of games.

For Wolves, things aren't much rosier because they are the team who could leapfrog Everton.

A great win at Fulham was undone by defeat by Bournemouth at the weekend. You just cannot keep on conceding goals at the rate they do.

But I expect the likes of Craig Dawson to come back in, which will help them.

Dominic King is at Goodison.

18:36

North East arrivals

Right then - I make that the team news wrapped up. Thanks to all involved.

The players and teams are arriving at St James' Park ahead of tonight's featured game.

This does feel like a tough one for Liverpool. Under the lights in Newcastle? Very intriguing. And that defence is certainty patched together.

Everton and Wolves team news

Finally, then, from Goodison.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is back up front for the Toffees, who are desperate for goals.

Four changes for Wolves, with the likes of Craig Dawson and Matt Doherty into the side.

'It's the beauty of having a big squad'

Big seven changes for Chelsea, including in goal, with Filip Jorgensen handed his first Premier League start over Robert Sanchez.
Nicolas Jackson is likewise rested, with Christopher Nkunku starting instead. The beauty of having such a big squad.

Southampton and Chelsea teams

It's rotation central for Chelsea. Levi Colwill, Nicolas Jackson and Robert Sanchez all find themselves on the bench tonight. Filip Jorgensen is in net, with Christopher Nkunku afforded a chance up front.

Cole Palmer, who doesn't usually play midweek, does start.

For Southampton, a few changes too, with the likes of James Bree and Nathan Wood starting. Joe Lumley remains in goal.

18:26

'Slot has refreshed his team'

Arne Slot has refreshed his team with Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones returning to the XI but the biggest change comes in defence, with Jarell Quansah making his first league start since the season opener at Ipswich.
The young Englishman came off the bench to play right back on Sunday - and it looks like he is set to play again here. It was at St James' Park last season that he made his Liverpool debut off the bench when Virgil van Dijk was sent off.

'A MUST win for City'

Well the big news at the Etihad is that Kevin De Bruyne is back starting a game for the first time since September. It’ll be interesting to hear whether Guardiola thinks that’s come too early for the Belgian but with Phil Foden out, there were a lack of other options for Manchester City.
Must win game for them tonight and Nottingham Forest – who’ve only lost once away from home all season – will fancy this.

Nottingham Forest team news: Gibbs-White STARTS

Not much to shout about with Forest. No thrills, but Morgan Gibbs-White is in behind Chris Wood and that will always give them a chance.

Moreno, Dominguez and Elanga are in for Williams and Anderson and Hudson-Odoi from the weekend win.

18:18

Breaking:Man City team news: De Bruyne STARTS

A big one for City and that calls for the big players. Kevin De Bruyne starts.

As do Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish. Gvardiol is back in too, with Ortega still in goal.

Rico Lewis and Kyle Walker are benched.

18:16

Breaking:Newcastle team news: Isak STARTS

All eyes for Newcastle were on Alexander Isak after he hobbled off against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Mail Sport's Craig Hope reported that he would be fit to start and that is, of course, the case. Looks like he will be flanked by Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy.

18:15

Breaking:Liverpool team news: Alexander-Arnold BENCHED

Here we go then. A little bit of rotation for Liverpool tonight, with Trent Alexander-Arnold clearly not yet fit enough to play twice in a matter of days.

Jarell Quansah is in, but whether he's playing at right or centre back, time will tell. Joe Gomez will play the other.

Luis Diaz drops to the bench too, with Darwin Nunez starting.

18:12

'We're waiting to see who is here'

Enzo Maresca was very complimentary of Southampton at his pre-match press conference yesterday, claiming this would be Chelsea’s toughest test of the season thus far. But then he was equally as courteous before beating League Two Barrow 5-0 in the Carabao Cup, and Armenian side Noah 8-0 in the Conference League.
Over to Russell Martin and his players to prove Maresca was not blowing hot air all over again, I suppose. I’m currently waiting for the team buses to see who is and isn’t here.

Blues flying high on the south coast

While I have captained Haaland, it feels as though everyone else who plays FPL has captained Palmer. And it's hard to blame them - he is a fine player who is probably hitting form again.

Chelsea are well in this title race, in my opinion. Perhaps they aren't quite ready, and that's fine, but they are level on points with Arsenal and have some healthy looking fixtures coming up.

What a job Enzo Maresca has done. Finally some stability after the chaos. You would back them to beat Southampton, who are still rock bottom, comfortably tonight.

Kieran Gill is there for us this evening.

Can City FINALLY turn it around?

It does feel a bit strange that City isn't our feature game. But rightly so, given the state of the champions at the minute.

No win in seven, six losses in that time and not even in the top four right now. Premier League title? Forget it, for what my money is worth They should be focusing on finishing top four.

There have been so many sub plots to this collapse. The lack of Rodri. Kovacic getting injured. The Feyenoord collapse. Pep's breakdown. Him then holding up the six at Anfield last week.

Forest at home, no matter how good they have been this year, should be a win. But it's far from certain - they are taking on a good defence and a team who have performed well this year. It's a really intriguing one.

That said, I have still captained Haaland in FPL. He has to come good at some point...

Jack Gaughan and Aadam Patel are in Manchester watching that one for us.

Liverpool looking to shine again

As our feature game, then, lets start out focus with Liverpool. What a season it has been for the Reds and Arne Slot so far. Top of the Premier League by nine points as we've said, top of the Champions League with a perfect record and still fighting in the League Cup as we wait for the FA Cup to get underway.

People thought they would falter when fixtures got tougher. Man City and Real Madrid in a week? Completed it mate.

That's not to say that tonight isn't a challenge. Newcastle haven't been great this season and Eddie Howe often sets his teams up better against better sides. So, at St James' Park, it won't be easy, and a slip up is certainly possible.

Craig Hope and Lewis Steele are in the north East watching that one for us and will be sending over their thoughts throughout the game.

How they stand

Before we get into tonight's games, let's have a look at the Premier League table.

Liverpool, as we know, are nine points clear. They could, in theory, end the night 12 clear if Arsenal and Chelsea both lose and they win, but something tells me that probably won't happen.

City have what you would generally assess to be a nice fixture at home to Forest tonight, but will slip below Nuno's side with a defeat, which would also be their seventh in eight.

Then there's the other end of the table, where the winner of Everton vs Wolves at Goodison will end the night outside the relegation places in what feels like - already - a six-pointer.

18:00

The show goes on...

A midweek dose of Premier League action? Don't mind if I do.

Hello and welcome to Mail Sport's coverage of some of this evening's games. We'll be focusing on the 7:30pm kick offs here, while my colleague Harry Bamforth will be leading the 8:15s elsewhere. I'll link you to that when it's live.

That means we will be covering Everton vs Wolves, Man City vs Nottingham Forest, Newcastle vs Liverpool and Southampton vs Chelsea in this live blog. Minute by minute from St James' Park, with updates from elsewhere.

What a night this promises to be. Strap in, folks.
