'The mandate is real' says Alina Habba amid confusion over Elon Musk's 'five accomplishments' email
By Geoff Earle, Deputy U.S. Political Editor for DailyMail.com
Counselor to the president Alina Habba told reporters that federal employees are still expected to respond to Elon Musk's demand that they list five things they did last week – after confusion and conflicting guidance from the administration.
'The president spoke on that ... You will be held accountable. You will lose your job if you are not working,' she told DailyMail.com when asked about Trump's firing threat over the matter.
Asked about guidance by the Office of Personnel Management that the email was voluntary and people would not be fired, she responded: 'It's like any job. We're going to ask you what you're doing. Each department is in charge.
She also told DailyMail.com officials would actually be reading the responses that went out to 2 million federal workers.
'The mandate is real. You have to show up to work,' she said, later adding, 'We're not asking them so that we put them in a waste basket. We're asking because we want to know.
Whether Habba herself produced her own five-point email wasn't entirely clear when she got asked if she and other White House officials complied.
'I received an email. President Trump knows what I do every single day, so for me to answer that email is incredibly easy,' the former Trump laywer said.

Exclusive:Trump aides to sue Michael Wolff for 'fake' report on feud between Chris LaCivita and Alina Habba
By Katelyn Caralle, Senior U.S. Political Reporter
At least two of Donald Trump 's top 2024 aides are planning to sue Michael Wolff over his forthcoming book about the president's campaign, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.
Wolff's bombshell new work will hit shelves on Tuesday, but the claims he made in the book are already causing massive waves in Trump's inner circle.
'I will now also be adding Michael Wolff to my upcoming lawsuit against the Daily Beast,' 2024 campaign co-manager Chris LaCivita told DailyMail.com.
And Habba warned: 'Michael Wolff, prepare to hear from my lawyers.'
'[I]f someone is going to write a book of fiction, they better make sure I'm not able to prove it's full of lies... but Wolff is clearly not interested in the truth,' Habba added.
The controversial author writes in his book All or Nothing that LaCivita got into a feud with Habba that resulted in him kicking her off Trump's campaign plane.
But both parties tell DailyMail.com that there was no fight, and Habba, who was a senior advisor to Trump's 2024 campaign, never had her space on the aircraft revoked.
A source divulged it's true LaCivita banned 2016 campaign aide Corey Lewandowski from Trump Force One, but did not take that action against anyone else.
