A tie for the ages

Inter are the victors, but it kind of feels like we all won tonight, well, except for Barca. What a truly incredible spectacle we witnessed tonight and last week in Spain. I'm not sure what there is left to say. Football is pretty good, eh?

Thank you for joining our coverage of this bonkers clash and be sure to check out all the great stories on Mail Sport about it tonight and in the coming days.

We'll be back with you tomorrow when Arsenal attempt to overturn a one-goal deficit from the first leg against Paris Saint-Germain. Until then, take care!

Dumfries: 'Crazy match, again. It was incredible'

Denzel Dumfries, Inter Milan, Amazon Prime:

Crazy match, again. Seven goals today. It was incredible, we fought until the end, but very proud of the way we fought today. Overall, very happy that we're going to the final.
I am very happy to help the team. I come back from injury so it was not easy. We have to fight every match for the colours of the club.

Rooney: 'Barcelona ran out of ideas'

Wayne Rooney, ex-Man United, Amazon Prime:

Once Inter got the equaliser it looked like they were the team that were going to push. Barcelona ran out of ideas at the end. I'm not really quick to praise goalkeepers, but some of those saves Yann Sommer made were excellent.

San Siro salutes their heroes

The Inter players have stayed on the pitch for a long time, lapping up the acclaim of a San Siro crowd that have been put through the ringer. They've reached their second Champions League final in three years. I'm not sure anyone saw that coming.

End of the road for Barcelona

It was a mammoth effort but Barcelona's stunning Champions League run comes to an end in Milan and their pursuit of their first European Cup since 2015 goes on. When the dust settles, Flick will be angered by his side's failure to hold onto the lead they had with just minutes of normal time to play.

They've now got to pick themselves back up because Real Madrid await in the Clasico on Sunday.

21:48

Sommer, take a bow!

Yann Sommer came up clutch for his team across the two legs. He made 14 saves in those two games and tonight he finished with an xG prevented of 1.44 goals. I can think of at least three jaw-dropping saves at least.

21:47

Yamal's OUTRAGEOUS night

Even in defeat, Yamal produced a truly extraordinary performance. I know this is Inter's night but I've just seen this and I can't not mention it. Yamal won an scarcely-believable 23 duels, completed 14 dribbles and had nine shots among other stunning stats.

INTER ARE INTO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL!

Oh my word, what was that! What a game, what a couple of games. Neither side deserved to lose that but it's Inter who are victorious after the best knockout tie we've ever witnessed. I'm pretty comfortable saying that - it has been magnificent.

Frattesi is the match winner for the Italians with a superb curling finish into the bottom corner in extra time.

Barcelona players look shocked rather than distraught; they thought they'd won it but have been left with nothing.

The visitors are pushing and nearly got through at the near post but De Vrij was there to clear and he's won his side a free kick as well.

Inter Milan 4-3 Barcelona (7-6 agg)

Bastoni has gone into the book for pulling back Yamal when he didn't fancy chasing after him. It's so tense now. Inter are just minutes away but the Barcelona threat remains. In fact, Yamal is growing in strength somehow.

STUNNING SAVE! Inter Milan 4-3 Barcelona (7-6 agg)

I CALLED IT! SOMMER TO THE RESCUE!

It might be better than his save from Garcia earlier in the match. Yamal thought he'd scored after coming inside and letting off a curling strike but Sommer was there to deny the youngster and thwart Barca.

21:30, 113'

Inter Milan 4-3 Barcelona (7-6 agg)

There are dejected faces on the Barcelona bench, they feel this tie might finally be beyond them. But there's still eight more minutes to play and Barca are camped outside the Inter area.

The other difference now is that there isn't that invention that once marked their attacking play. You can still see at least one more big chance for Barca.

21:25, 109'

HUGE MISS! Inter Milan 4-3 Barcelona (7-6 agg)

Yamal teased two defenders on the byline before managing to squeeze a cross into the box that evades Sommer and lands on the head of Lewandowski. The Pole can't find the target, though, and heads over.

Inzaghi, meanwhile, makes his final change and takes off the excellent Dumfries for De Vrij.

ET SECOND-HALF: Inter Milan 4-3 Barcelona (7-6 agg)

We're back up and running after a short break and Barcelona are on the attack immediately. They've got 15 short minutes to grab at least one goal and keep their Champions League hopes alive. I can't shake the feeling that they have it in them.

21:22, 105'

SUBSTITUTIONS: Inter Milan 4-3 Barcelona (7-6 agg)

Cubarsi and Pedri leave the action for Pau Victor and Gavi. Victor enters the play on a yellow card after he was cautioned while on the bench so he'll have to be careful in these slippery conditions.

21:20

ET HALF-TIME: Inter Milan 4-3 Barcelona (7-6 agg)

There's more controversy as the referee blows his whistle to end the first period of extra time. The home side felt they were on the attack when proceedings were brought to a halt.

The Inter bench emptied. Inzaghi had to be pushed back towards the touchline by his players. I'll say it again, it's crazy stuff!

We're into three additional minutes of extra time now. The ain't is pouring down at San Siro and Barcelona are stunned. Those pesky patterns are working as well as they were before and you can just sense a few of those young heads dropping. Is another fightback too much to ask for?

INTER AHEAD! Frattesi scores but all the plaudits for the goal go to Marcus Thuram. The Frenchman holds up his defender, turns him, drives into the box and then finds his teammate, who takes a minute and finds the corner.

It's officially a historic tie. Now the joint-highest scoring Champions League semi-final and I'm convinced we're going to see more goals before the end.

21:09, 98'

Inter Milan 3-3 Barcelona (6-6 agg)

Time for Barcelona to get into the ascendancy. The visitors are starting to enjoy more of the possession and are working their dangerous triangles in the midfield, which the Inter midfield is far too tired to chase. This feels like another really important period for the Italians.

Barcelona are making a change, bringing on youngster Fort for Eric Garcia. I bet he's amazing as well.

21:05, 94'

We have a tame opening after the dramatic end to normal time. It's good for me, allows me to get my breath back. I've got no idea how those players are still going.

Inter have started better and are looking to exploit that Barcelona high line again. Football is a strange and wonderful game, isn't it?

WATCH: Acerbi LEVELS it at the death

20:56

FULL-TIME: Inter Milan 3-3 Barcelona (6-6 agg)

We're going to extra time after another breathless clash between Inter and Barcelona. Right at the end, Yamal had a chance to win for the visitors but he was unable to get enough purchase on his shot amid the pressure from the Inter defence.

WOW! It's crazy stuff at the San Siro! How Inter are still alive, I will never know but credit to them for continuing to push until the very end.

What on earth will the extra 30 minutes bring?

20:53, 94'

Goal:Inter Milan 3-3 Barcelona (6-6 agg) (Acerbi 90+4)

STOP THAT! INTER LEVEL!

It's Acerbi, the centre back, with a stunning near-post finish right at the death. Barcelona are furious, believing there was a foul in the lead-up to the goal.

Barca boss Hansi Flick gets a yellow card for his protests while San Siro rejoices. It's crazy stuff. Can these two play every week, please?

20:47, 88'

Goal:Inter Milan 2-3 Barcelona (5-6 agg) (Raphinha 88')

THAT'S THE STRIKE!

That's the goal that wins Barcelona the tie and probably Raphinha the Ballon d'Or. He's done NOTHING in this game but he's scored the winner and I guess that's all that matters.

The Brazilian responded quickest after his shot was saved by Sommer and arrowed a right-footed shot into the bottom corner of the net.

What a comeback from Barcelona but Inter will be kicking themselves. They've thrown it away three times across the two legs.

Inter Milan 2-2 Barcelona (5-5 agg)

Inter have had to withstand a little less pressure in the last few minutes with further changes to both sides and a stop-start game as a result. With the 90 minutes now in sight, it really does feel like Inter are just trying to hang on. They have managed to weather that storm, so perhaps they've saved some energy for the final few minutes of normal time?

20:39, 80'

CHANGES: Inter Milan 2-2 Barcelona (5-5 agg)

Calhanoglou and Mkhitaryan are replaced by Zielinski and Frattesi as we enter the final 10 minutes of normal time. Inzaghi had to change something but I'm not sure about that one.

SAVE! Inter Milan 2-2 Barcelona (5-5 agg)

Yamal tries his luck from range and forces Yann Sommer into a superb stop. The Swiss keeper stretched out a right hand to stop the ball from curling into the top corner. I'll say it again, it's only a matter of time until Barca get the go-ahead goal.

Inter Milan 2-2 Barcelona (5-5 agg)

Inter are not scoring again tonight. Everything they did well in an attacking sense in the first half has vanished after the break. I can see they're knackered but all their patterns of play have gone. It's not like Barca have suddenly dropped their line.

The outcome of this game now feels inevitable. Inter are holding on for penalties and we've not even hit 80 minutes of normal time yet!

Inter Milan 2-2 Barcelona (5-5 agg)

What next? Barcelona are getting more and more joy now and Yamal is a growing influence on this game. That Inter defence, if not the whole team, is looking ragged. That first half display looks to have taken lot out of them.

The next 10 to 15 minutes are massive. They need to weather this storm and mount a rousing finish for their fans.

What has happened to Inter. They look a shell of themselves and the San Siro is stunned into silence.

OH MY GOD! WHAT A SAVE! WHAT A CHANCE!

Sommer produces a truly outstanding save to deny Barcelona an equaliser. Barcelona break from an Inter corner and have a 3v1 and manage to work it brilliantly.

The only shame is that the shot falls to Garcia, who doesn't get his effort into the corner and allows Sommer to deny him. It's end-to-end stuff all of a sudden.

GAME ON! This tie is the gift that just keeps on giving!

Inter are punished for going ultra-defensive straight from the start of the second period. Still, it's a mightily impressive volley from the full-back Garcia to get Barcelona back into the game.

The former Manchester City star side-footed his shot into the top corner from a cross that evaded Torres in the middle.

OFFSIDE: Inter Milan 2-0 Barcelona (5-3 agg)

Inter have the ball in the net for a third time but it's immediately ruled out for offside. Barcelona do like taking some risks, don't they? Their defensive line from an Inter free-kick is so high and this time catches Acerbi offside. The defender produced a smart header which finds the corner but he'll get nothing for it.

PENALTY SHOUT! Inter Milan 2-0 Barcelona (5-3 agg)

YAMAL GOES DOWN! But the youngster has gone to ground too easily there. That was an example of old man strength against the wiry teenager. Yamal thought he was in on goal but Bastoni and Acerbi get back to wrestle the ball from him.

20:08, 49'

Inter Milan 2-0 Barcelona (5-3 agg)

The first example of Yamal's dancing feet comes a couple of minutes into the second half. Inter will be concerned that he was able to isolate Bastoni on the right flank but his cross evaded his teammates and Inter were able to clear to safety.

It's been an encouraging start for the visitors. Inter are sitting right back now. This second 45 is going to be a siege on their goal.

20:05, 45'

SECOND-HALF: Inter Milan 2-0 Barcelona (5-3 agg)

Here we go. It's a massive second half for the visitors. Can they come back like they did a week ago? Barcelona get the second period underway in Milan.

20:03

No luck for Gerard Martin

Flick's decision to keep faith with Gerard Martin after his howler last week was surprising and the full back has rewarded his manager's faith with another clanger. He lost possession 10 times in the first half, more than any other player.

Don't be shocked to see him hooked at the break here as well.

Erling Haaland would be proud

I'm struggling to believe this corker of a stat from our friends at Sqwaka, but they are claiming that Lautaro Martinez scored as many goals as he completed passes in the first half.

In other words, he completed ONE pass in 45 minutes. I don't really know what to say about that.

HALF-TIME: Inter Milan 2-0 Barcelona

Tempers are running high as the players leave the field. There are even some substitutes entering the field of play as the referee brings the first half to a close.

It concludes a perfect first 45 for the Italian side. They have played an absolute blinder so far. Yamal has been kicked into a corner, and Barca's high line has been ruthlessly exploited.

Hansi Flick has a job on his hands to turn this one around. At present, with the crowd behind them, it doesn't feel like Inter can lose.

There's a total mix-up between Raphinha and Torres at the far post after Yamal had got the better of two Inter defenders. Barce had a 2v1 at the far post but conspired to royally mess it up.

I think Raphinha threw a leg at it and managed to hit his teammate, with the ball going out for a goal kick. It's a big let-off for Inter and a reminder that doubling up on Yamal comes at a cost.

BLOCK! Inter Milan 1-0 Barcelona

Barca are starting to purr. The goal has just woken them up and they've enjoyed their best moments in the game. Inter are doing a good job of containing Yamal at the minute but that's allowing the likes of Olmo and Pedri to dictate.

Torres just had his shot blocked by Acerbi after Raphinha burst past Barella. That being said, the threat of a counter is always looming now. Oh, it's a fun one this!

VAR CHECK! Inter Milan 1-0 Barcelona

DRAMA! Barcelona are calling for a penalty after the ball strikes an Inter defender's arm from Pedri's pass. The Champions League have a much lower threshold for this sort of thing than the Premier League but even they brush it aside. Game on.

Goal:Inter Milan 1-0 Barcelona (Martinez 21')

MARTINEZ SCORES FOR INTER!

It's perfect. The game plan working as Inzaghi dreamt it! Inter pinch the ball back from Barca in the middle of the park and play a ball in behind the visitors' defence. Dumfries sprung the offside trap and played a pass across to his captain, who couldn't miss.

The San Siro erupts. Inter lead!

'Inter have a clear tactic'

Inter have a clear tactic - Martinez drops into the No.10 position, gets the ball and immediately plays a pass in behind for Thuram to chase. And despite Flick's message that the holes in his defence would be plugged, the home strategy looks extremely dangerous so far.
19:19, 19'

CHANCE! Inter Milan 0-0 Barcelona

INTER GET IN BEHIND! MARTINEZ DENIES!

I really think Mkhitaryan should have made more of that when he received the ball on the wing with Martinez in the middle. But the former Premier League star could only find his teammate's namesake who knocked the ball out for a corner.

There's a bit of sustained Inter pressure here now. Can they make it count?

19:16, 16'

SAVE! Inter Milan 0-0 Barcelona

And that's the first shot for Yamal. He darted inside a couple of Inter defenders from the corner of the box before squeezing his shot through another couple of defenders.

Moments later, Thuram wastes an opening after receiving a pass on the edge of the box. This one is starting to heat up!

19:14, 14'

OFFSIDE! Inter Milan 0-0 Barcelona

Barca's high-line works perfectly this time as Thuram is caught offside from Martinez's through ball. The Frenchman took too long to have a shot and was thwarted by Szczęsny anyway but it was just a little warning for the visitors.

'Champions League music was relegated to a backing track'

If there was a prize for ‘best turned out’, to borrow horse-racing parlance, the San Siro would take the garland for this pre-match invasion of your senses.
The Champions League music was relegated to a backing track - UEFA will not be happy - as a thunderous chorus of 75,000 tenors became an opera of defiant pride! Inter could not have asked for a better send-off before going into battle.

Inter Milan 0-0 Barcelona

It's cagey stuff! It's what you would expect in a game of this magnitude. The sides are just feeling each other out at the moment and I think both will be optimistic about what they've seen in the early exchanges.

The pass in behind is always on for Inter. Barca really need to be alert.

Inter Milan 0-0 Barcelona

Inter's tactic for dealing with Yamal has been revealed in the first 5 minutes. De Marco clattered the teenager after he'd danced past two of his teammates. The longer the Italian can stay without a booking, the quieter Yamal will be.

Inter Milan 0-0 Barcelona

Ferran Torres thought he had an early sight on goal but the official's offside flag came shortly after his shot was blocked. The Spanish striker would have been guilty of squandering a big chance, given that his team-mate Raphinha was unmarked in the middle.

Alright, down to business

Oooh we're just minutes away from the referee's first whistle. The players are out of the tunnel and onto the turf under the lights of the San Siro. The Champions League anthem rings throughout the stadium while the home fans display a stunning array of flags and messages of support - and intimidation.

What an atmosphere. What a night this could be!

I've decided. I'm going for Inter Milan after extra time.

Time to give Lewa that Ballon d'Or?

I mentioned it briefly earlier, but all this talk of Raphinha and Yamal for the Ballon d'Or must be getting under Lewandowski's skin. The Polish great famously missed out on the award in 2020 when they inexplicably decided to scrap it because of COVID.

The 36-year-old, who returns to the squad after missing four games through injury, has scored 40 goals this season. Yes, 40 goals! Come on, he'd be well worth it if Barca manage to go all the way.

Rooney: 'Barcelona WON'T change'

Wayne Rooney, ex-Man United, Amazon Prime:

I think Barcelona won't change. I think they will play a very high line and Inter Milan, as good as they are defensively they are very good attackingly.
They don't get the credit they deserve for that, they put players forward and they will definitely be looking to exploit Barcelona's high line. I think Barcelona need to be careful because if they play that way tonight, they could be in trouble.

Inter have not lost a home match in the Champions League for THREE years. That's a run of 15 games in the competition and stretches back to a group stage match against Bayern Munich during the 2022-23 campaign.

One for the statheads

Look out for the ‘medium-range passes’ aka through balls from Barca tonight. Shout out to the brilliant Adam Clery for this nugget: Barca love an incisive pass into the middle of the pitch.

They have played them at an alarming rate this season, and it’s the key to their attack. The Spanish side’s midfield will play short passes between one another before finding the perfect moment to cut through the lines into one of their devastating attackers.

If Inter's defence is able to spring onto the Barca attacker when they receive it, then they could have a chance. But as we saw with Yamal's opener last week, even if the teenager's back to the play and he's got 10 players between him and the goal, he can still make something happen.

18:21

How are your nerves, gents?

The Inter players all looked remarkably calm as they entered the San Siro for tonight's game. I'm not sure how they've kept their composure. I'd be absolutely buzzing after the reception on the bus but I guess that's why they get paid the big bucks and I'm sitting here. Well, that and the infinitely great footballing talent.

Anyway, there's not long now until the action gets underway and as the start draws nearer, I'm starting to fancy the home side more and more.

18:18

Give it Inter!

I've just seen the jerseys Barcelona will be wearing tonight and I reckon they should award the victory to Inter without a ball being kicked. I don't know about you, but for me, that green monstrosity is an offence worth a 3-0 forfeit.

'Predictions are futile, but what the hell'

I know I said earlier that it was futile making predictions on this one, but I'm going to all the same... 2-2, extra-time, penalties... Barca win!
That would be a reporter's nightmare (we prefer these ties done in 90 minutes given deadlines) but it would certainly make for great entertainment!
18:08

Barca's achilles heel

How high is too high? Flick comes from the same school as Postecoglou when it comes to front-foot defending. His Bayern team were exactly the same, but they had the speed merchant Alphonso Davies to save them when opponents got in behind.

Barca do not have that. Inter were thoroughly outclassed in the first leg, yet they managed to score three goals and probably should have had four. It’s a high-risk, high-reward game plan.

A message for the Ballon d'Or voters

Yamal vaulted up the rankings after his first leg display and is now the favourite for the award. It’s ridiculous if you ask me, one good performance does not make a Ballon d’Or campaign.

I don’t want to dunk on the kid, but he’s got 15 goals and 20 assists this season. That’s an even less impressive six goals and 12 assists in LaLiga. I mean, come on, are we really going to hand the Ballon d’Or to a forward who has scored less than 10 goals in their domestic league?!

Don’t get me started on Raphinha, his case is only marginally better in my opinion. How good is LaLiga anyway? I mean, Antony! £86 million flop Antony is now ripping the division up for fun. Okay, I’ve gone off on a tangent now.

Why isn’t Lewandowski getting Ballon d’Or love for his monstrous season at the age of 36! He’s scored 40 goals in all competitions, and this isn’t even one of his best campaigns.

18:00

A big night for Wojciech

Now we have the team news confirmed, which allows me to talk about the Barcelona keeper Wojciech Szczesny. Remember when he was an error-prone goalkeeping oddity in the Arsenal ranks about 15 years ago, would you have imagined he’d be in the starting lineup in a 2025 Champions League semi-final?

The Pole rebuilt his career at Roma after leaving the Gunners, initially on loan, in 2015. Then moved to Juventus after Alisson Becker was signed by the capital club, where he won three league titles.

He retired, came back last year following a gruesome injury to Marc-Andre ter Stegen and is now the Barca No. 1. And that’s not even close to being the most interesting thing about him.

Inter team news: Lautaro STARTS

The headline news is that the skipper Martinez, has been passed fit to start. More interesting, in my humble opinion, is the unchanged line-up from the first leg.

Inzaghi joked that he could play two specialists left-backs to better deal with the threat of Yamal. He's decided against it and we'll see if that comes back to haunt him.

17:52

Barcelona team news: ONE change

Flick has kept faith with Martin at left back, which is a surprise, given he hooked him after only 45 minutes last week. Former Man City defender Eric Garcia replaces the injured Jules Kounde.

17:49

What about that for a welcome

The Inter fans are not messing about. They intend to play their part in tonight's outcome. Images are coming through of the grand welcome Inter players received when arriving at the San Siro and it's spine-tingling.

The man in the middle

Szymon Marciniak does not look like the kind of guy you want to encounter in a dark alley. Perhaps that appearance has gone some way to making him one of the most high-profile referees in the game today.

The Pole is set to take charge of tonight's clash at San Siro and there may be some bad omens for the home side in that regard. Marciniak was the referee when Inter came up short against Manchester City in the Champions League final two years ago.

The last time he took charge of an Inter game the Nerazzurri were eliminated from the Champions League after a shootout defeat by Atletico Madrid.

Interestingly, he has officiated clashes between Inter and Barcelona before: a 1-1 draw at San Siro in the Champions League group phase in 2018-19 and a 3-3 draw at Nou Camp in 2022-23, also in the Champions League group phase. Omens all over the place!

What makes Inter so good?

For a few years now, Inter have been the 'thinking man's' favourite football team. Simeone Inzaghi has crafted a wonderfully balanced, tactically refined and incredibly flexible side that has punched well above its weight in Europe and been successful at home.

Inter are 90 minutes away from their second Champions League final in three years. Let that sink in! If Flick is the most underrated top coach in the world, then Inzaghi isn't that far behind.

Time to put some respect on Hansi's name

I think Hansi Flick might just be the most underrated top coach in world football at the moment. After his exit from the German national team there wasn't a great clamour from clubs needing a new head coach for his signature.

This is a man who was Joachim Low's No. 2 when Germany won the World Cup in 2014 and then took over at Bayern Munich and won the Treble. Perhaps he was unfortunate that it was during COVID and not many people took notice.

Flick is on course to claim another continental Treble, this time with Barcelona. I think it's time he starts getting talked about among the very best on the continent.

'Anyone who claims to know how it will play out is lying'

I've just bumped into former Newcastle and Spurs defender Sebastien Bassong in the media centre. The last time I saw him we were at the Euros final in Berlin - he must only cover the big games, I joked with him just now.
But Seb says there is no point making a prediction for this game, and anyone who claims to know how it will play out is lying! I tend to agree, anything could happen, and that's the beauty and intrigue of this tie. Sit back and enjoy it and save the debate for post match was Seb's message!
17:27

Flashback to 2010

Inter Milan are keen for their supporters to remember their famous tussle against Barcelona at the semi-final stage of the European Cup in 2010. That night, Jose Mourinho's unfancied side stunned the defending champions and earned a 3-1 victory that they were able to defend at the Camp Nou a week later.

Goals that night were scored by Sneijder, Maicon and Milito but can you recall the Barca goalscorer? Hint: He's still playing professional football today.

17:23

Schrodinger’s Martinez

As Craig outlined in his piece on the mood in Milan over the past few days, a lot of talk - and no doubt prayers - concerned the fitness of Inter captain Lautaro Martinez after he suffered an injury in the first leg.

But, for me anyway, he remains a great mystery. I know he is one of the best strikers in European football, with an impressive resume and formidable talents but whenever I watch him, he’s pretty awful, mediocre at best.

Martinez looks set to start the game, having trained during the week but it's unlikely he'll be fully fit. The Argentine World Cup winner - he was awful in that run to the trophy in 2022 - has formed an impressive partnership with Frenchman Marcus Thuram, who is also carrying a knock.

The fate of the Italian side will largely rest on Martinez's shoulders. His fans will say that he has produced for the side many times already, but maybe tonight will be the night he finally convinces me. I'm sure he's been dying to do so.

Selection headaches for Flick

Hansi Flick is certainly the coach with the most to think about when it comes to his team selection. The German will be without his two first-choice full backs for the second leg after Jules Kounde followed Alejandro Balde on the sidelines.

It puts the Barca boss in an interesting position. Early reports suggest that Inigo Martinez could come in at left back after Gerard Matin was hooked in the first half of the first leg.

On the right, it could be Eric Garcia that gets the nod but whoever comes in it'll be a big drop off from the Frenchman Kounde.

Some good news for Barca comes in the return of Robert Lewandowski. Ferran Torres has deputised well in his absence but having their 40-goal veteran back in their ranks will boost Barca's hopes greatly.

Lamine Yamal is the boy with the world at his feet - Inter Milan will need THREE players to mark Barcelona's star

Alright, before I focus on some of the other talking points from tonight's game, I'd be remiss not to mention the brilliant piece from Craig Hope about the Spanish star.

For all the info on the mood in Milan ahead of kick-off - and the Italian public's feelings on how to stop Yamal - have a read of the below.

CLICK BELOW TO READ MORE:

17:10

Inzaghi: 'He'll be a marked man'

Forgive me for starting things off with three entries about Yamal, but the youngster has attracted all the headlines.

After calling him a literal genius following his first-leg showing, Inter boss Simone Inzaghi promised that Yamal will be a 'marked man' at the San Siro. I mean, he was a marked man in Barcelona but it didn't matter much.

That experience is sure to aid those wary Inter defenders when coming up against the winger tonight and it will be fascinating to see whether the gameplan cooked up by the Italian will work its magic.

Simeone Inzaghi, Inter boss, pre-match presser:

We have to try to keep the ball from getting to him, but it’s impossible. He will obviously be double-marked, he’ll be a marked man, and we’ll try to pay close attention to him.
Seeing him live, he’s an incredible talent, truly very dangerous — everyone gives him the ball. What impressed me was his speed of thought; he always knows what play to make.

17:07

How will Yamal deal with the pressure?

Sticking with the teenage phenom, I feel this is the first time he'll have to contend with the pressure of being the world's best. My personal view is that he's not quite there yet, but when most of the world has declared you thus, there's not much he can do about it now.

The same goes for the Lionel Messi comparisons. Yamal has tried to distance himself from them but there's no escaping it. He will forever be compared to the Argentine great, at least for as long as he's producing out-of-this-world displays.

Tonight is therefore crucial because Yamal now enters a world where everyone expects him to turn in an 8/10 performance every game he plays. It's what the truly great stars do. It's a lot to bear on the shoulders of the skinny teenager but that's the new reality of his situation.

17:03

How do you solve a problem like Lamine?

That question would no doubt have given Inter boss Simone Inzaghi several sleepless nights in the last week. The 17-year-old's performance in the first leg has already become the stuff of legend.

The Italians will consider themselves fortunate to welcome Barcelona to the San Siro with the tie level at 3-3 after being outclassed in the first encounter. Yes, Inter could and should have scored a fourth, but take a look back at the stats from the game, the momentum of the tie and oh, of course, the startling performance of Yamal, and it's safe to say Inter are relieved to still be level.

Barcelona come into the second leg as marginal favourites, but if they are to progress before penalties, they'll have to do something no opponent has managed in THREE years: beat Inter at the San Siro in the Champions League.

There's a lot of expectation on tonight's game, given the classic we had in Montjuic but let's not go into this expecting another rip-roaring affair. This is the semi-final of the Champions League after all. Neither side has been to a final in at least a decade.

For what I'm predicting will be a cagey and nervy affair, our very own Craig Hope is on the ground to provide his insights. We'll be bringing you all the updates ahead of the 8pm kick-off and then the drama when that gets underway!
